The BA in Creative Technologies (First Level Academic Degree in New Technologies for Applied Arts) explores the world of CGI and aims at growing professional figures in the fields of Game, VFX and 3D. Over the whole programme the students learn the most innovative digital techniques: from virtual production to develop VFX in real time, to character design and animation with the use of motion capture systems, from the development of videogames to the design of virtual reality experiences.
During this course, students will be introduced to the world of CGI, throughout the fundamental teachings of polygonal modeling, and will learn how to develop humanoid and mechanical figures. This course includes the teaching of basic knowledge of Maya software, the use of well-defined shootings, and practical workshops.
Throughout this course, students will learn how to create effective graphic vector images applicable in many different professional and design areas. Focused on practicing with various tools, students will learn to create from simple graphs to basic shapes, icons, illustrations, and logos.
This course aims to introduce students to the field of motion graphics. By implementing photos, illustration, text and vector graphics, students will acquire knowledge on how to set up a project and to import creative content into software in order to develop simple animations.
This course aims at teaching students how to create video games using Unity 3D, a free-to-use game development engine. Students will have the opportunity to develop 3D gaming experiences with sophisticated storylines, interactions, aesthetics, and technical aspects. They will discover how to use the core features of the software while designing their very first game, starting with learning how to create a new project and manage their game assets.
The course will show different techniques, processes and approaches to hand drawing, allowing students to get the basic technical and artistic skills necessary to turn their imagination into professional illustrations and acquire a creative sign.
The Academic Master explores theories, methods and design approaches to contemporary communication through an intensive programme and helps students to develop cross-disciplinary analysis, cultural coding and language skills pertinent to the sustainable innovation of institutions, public and private companies.
The Foundation Year is a propaedeutic interdisciplinary programme aimed at candidates with a secondary school diploma or other diplomas regarded as appropriate, who do not meet all admission requirements for their chosen NABA bachelor’s degree course.
The course introduces participants to a form of visual storytelling capable of integrating the creation of images and textual content. Students will be guided in the development of a narrative and the discovery of their tone of voice and stylistic output, expressed in a project with a different creative form (graphic novel, comic, visual storytelling, art book, sketchbook).
The BA explores the transformation of contemporary art practices, connecting art with different areas of the production and social contexts. Relating to the dynamics and values of the contemporary art system, the programme reinterprets and expands the traditional academic approach to painting and visual arts, guiding students through experimentation, investigating a variety of environments, techniques and methods.
The MA combines solid training in artistic production with highly specialised curatorial practice. Lead by globally recognised artists, curators, critics and intellectuals, the programme explores the relationship between art, visual culture, aesthetics and social dynamics, focusing on the main research and theoretical methodologies of contemporary art.
The BA was created to prepare artists and professionals in the field of audiovisual creations, in particular in the branch of cinema, in both live action productions and animations, and in all the traditional, contemporary and future applications including their hybrid products.
The MA in Creative Media Production explores the complexity of a world managed and interpreted by analogical tools, such as videocameras and microphones, as weel as by digital ones, such as big data and machine learning, through the creative expression of experimental media and new technologies.
Through an intensive programme that integrates theories, methods and design practices by developing cross-disciplinary skills of analysis and cultural coding of contemporary languages, this Master intends to train professionals figures in the field of audio-visual screenwriting, who are capable of intercepting themes and narratives of a constantly evolving world for the development of cinematographic or serial projects of national and international relevance.
This course is dedicated to students who want to get an overview of the process of costume design for the performance industry, along with an understanding of the important role that costuming plays in character creation.
This course introduces students to the world of fashion films. It will provide them the necessary tools and basic technical skills regarding the making of a short fashion film. Participants will be inspired to develop their own ideas and their potential to the fullest.
The identity of a brand is communicated involving all the senses of the recipient: visual, olfactory, tactile, architectural, and acoustic. Within the set of human senses and by combining critical-cultural knowledge, creative research, technical and technological practice with the analysis and design of sound brands, this course aims at focusing on the value of sound in building a brand identity.
This course combines critical-cultural knowledge, creative research, technical and technological practice, analysis and design of sound in different production areas: from electronic music production to sound design for film, television and radio.
Following the “learning by doing” approach, the BA alternates and integrates theoretical studies with experiential workshops. This BA guides students into the varied world of communication, which has been increasingly expanding with the spreading of new media that open up to new interesting professional scenarios. With its three main specialisations, it is an interdisciplinary programme ranging between the various fields of graphic design, from advertising to digital publishing, from digital media to 3D motion graphics.
The Master of Arts gives the students the necessary skills to handle experimental design, laboratory, and cultural projects that are linked to fashion and costume design. The MA in Social Design (Second Level Academic Degree in Design) enables students to understand and to explore new scenarios for practicing design in today’s and tomorrow’s world.
The MA in Textile Design trains professional figures to manage creative processes in the fields of textile and knitwear design.
The MA in User Experience Design (Second Level Academic Degree in Communication Design) provides the theoretical, technical and methodological skills for the design of complex digital communication systems.
The MA in Visual Design and Integrated Marketing Communication (Second Level Academic Degree in Communication Design) provides a synthesis between the typical marketing approach, as usually covered in more corporate business oriented courses, to help students develop a solid background in the field, and the artistic-expressive approach as also used by new technologies, gaining a wide range of technical and design production skills.

The course, in collaboration with Archivio Clemen Parrocchetti located in the castle of Borgo Adorno, through a series of preparatory lectures and the opportunity to visit and analyse the 20th Century Italian artist and painter’s Archive, will provide students with the chance to explore matters related to fabric dyeing, focusing above all on the use of natural materials derived from locally grown plants.

This course is intended for people of all ages and abilities willing to explore their passion in a new creative environment while experiencing Milan, the international capital of Art, Fashion and Design, and Rome, the capital of Italian Culture and Cinema.
An inspiring discovery of the Italian fashion pipeline with lectures by experienced professionals and guided visits to Milan’s best fashion areas and showrooms. Students will be given an overview of the Italian Fashion System, and they will learn to produce fashion sketches and to carry out research to be used to develop a fashion collection. Students will work in groups and will realize a research for the fashion project.
In this course students will create a capsule collection. Concepts, moods and themes will be conceived and developed to provide inspiration for clothing, colour and shape.
This course introduces students to the world of fashion digital drawing. Starting from anatomical figures and the basic skills of drawing with the Adobe software on their own laptops, participants will have the chance to create various styles of clothing (jacket, trousers, skirt, blouse, t-shirt), including the rendering of different textile materials.
Students will develop an understanding and gain experience in style-hunting and image styling as the foundations of fashion and project-development approach. They will be given an overview of the Italian Fashion System, and they will be inspired to develop their ideas and their potential to the fullest.
Students will be given a theoretical and practical training, including the possibility to visit fashion showrooms, in the field of fashion styling to teach them to create a new image encompassing make-up techniques, hair shapes, location, light, photography. Students will experience the ideation
of a real photo shooting for a fashion magazine using their creativity and skills.
The course, in collaboration with ApritiModa – a project born in 2017 from an idea by Cinzia Sasso, will allow students to discover the great heritage of the Italian fashion system and understand the reason why the so-called Made in Italy is paramount worldwide.
The course explores the field of motion graphic by focusing on and putting into practice After Effects software skills, for the realisation of a concrete project that can be integrated into graphic design projects or other multimedia production experimentations, characterised by different types of animations and dynamism.
The course aims at teaching how to create a realistic portrait, or build on the students existing skills through practicing on drawing the human face, using photographs and live models. Students will work through a variety of exercises to develop precise techniques and a personal style, with a special emphasis on form and color, observing proportions, rendering color and shadow, and making quick sketches that convey a range of emotions.
Students will develop their drawing skills while exploring the ancient city of Rome, its monuments, museums, and the everyday places where Roman people gather to enjoy life. As they make quick drawing and painting sketches outdoor and indoor different environments, they will practice how to capture tone, colour, light, and atmosphere by using a variety of drawing and painting techniques.
The course is divided in two connected parts. During the theoretical part, students will acquire the basic knowledge about the available materials, structures, and techniques of weaving and printing. Then, during the second laboratorial part, students will learn to evaluate the most appropriate techniques to be applied to a fabric and they will produce a mini project of textile design.
This course aims to introduce participants to the topic of branding, focusing especially within the context of local brands and landmarks, such as regions and cities. Empowered by their communication approach, a must for every entity is to work on the definition of their image and perception, both from a commercial and from an institutional point of view.
During this course, students will gain knowledge of the different visual communication concepts and tools. Participants will be guided through a path marked by both lectures and practical workshops in order to learn digital skills and the methods of visual representation.
The one-year Academic Master prepares professionals for their entry into the world of photography, arts, and national and international communication, integrating theoretical study with projects, workshops and guided visits to research centers and exhibition spaces, audiovisual production facilities, publishing houses, theatres, artists’ studios, museums and contemporary art galleries.
In this course, students will learn the fundamentals of photography while exploring Rome, one of the world’s most historic and beautiful cities. Through practical workshops, they will experiment with creative composition, camera controls, lighting, and colour films.
The BA provides students with the tools to address the complex reality of set design through the study of design-related topics in the fields of theatre, events, exhibitions, fashion shows, cinema and television, among others. Through crossover courses like photography, light design, costume design and performing arts, and internships at theatres and leading companies in the field.
The MA in Interior Design (Second Level Academic Degree in Design) develops all-round professional profiles ready to enter the global marketplace. In the contemporary world, interiors play an increasingly important role in individual and collective living spaces of global cities, becoming part of a complex physical and narrative system.
During the MA in Product and Service Design (Second Level Academic Degree in Design), professors and professionals guide students to become full-scale designers, capable of envisioning new products and services, managing all phases of a project’s development, from conception to manufacturing and release onto the market, through definition of the design strategy and material researching.
The Academic Master gives a new perspective on the role of urban designers, and allows the students to enhance their experience in reading into, interpreting and designing cities to face the new complexity of urban contexts, and complement it with practical actions also establishing relationships with local and international partners.
The course will enable participants to understand the combination of aesthetics, functionality, and of operational aspects necessary to design successful hotels. Students will dive into a deep analysis of contemporary hotel typologies, of the latest hotel design trends, and of the information regarding materials, furniture, and lighting.
A full immersion course that will provide students with an overview of the Italian design methodology. Students will be introduced to the analysis of the elements of space, and they will have the opportunity to focus specifically on interior design, and to dive into intensive project works. Students will use lifestyle, art and design research in Milan to develop an interior space plan.
Students will have the chance to analyse contemporary interior spaces through observation based on
individual research. They will develop a professional designer’s attitude, searching for materials as a source of inspiration by exploring the city. The project-based work will be geared toward the creation of a model of interior layout, using only regenerated or discarded materials.
A full-immersion course that will provide students with an overview of the Italian design methodology. Students will be introduced to the analysis of the elements of space, and they will have the opportunity to focus specifically on interior design, and to dive into intensive project works. Students will use lifestyle, art and design research in Rome to develop an interior space plan.
The course gives an overall vision of the art of lighting and its related functions, from a technical and stylistic point of view. Students will be led through the theory and practice of the light design field developing a personal design language. The final project will consist in a new light system applied to an interior design case history.
Students will be introduced and exposed to the design process, in order to understand what lies behind the creation of a product. They will have the opportunity to dive into intensive project work geared towards creative thinking and exploring form and functionality.
Students will develop a project which consists of a coordinated product line created by using hand or digital drawing, as well as a product prototype. Specific workshops focused on materials, history of design, and on the biography of an object, will expose students to multiple possible approaches.

Marco Scotini
Visual Arts Department Head – Marco Scotini is the Artistic Director of the FM Centre for Contemporary Art, Milan, and Head of the Exhibitions Programme at PAV, Parco Arte Vivente, Turin. He is the Scientific Director of the Archivio Gianni Colombo and the Bert Theis Archive. He has been a member of the Italian Council since 2019. He has been Visual Arts Department Head since 2004.

Silvia Simoncelli
Head of Education of NABA in Rome – She has served as Course Leader of NABA Academic Master in Contemporary Art Markets in Milan. She regularly holds seminars at Leuphana Universität Lüneburg in Germany, she taught at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera and was research assistant for the Master in Curating at Zürcher Hochschule der Kunste. She partecipated in and organized conferences in London (ICA), Zürich (Migros Museum), Berlin (Technische Universität), Milan (NABA, Università Milano-Bicocca).

Set Design Course Advisor Leader – Margherita Palli began a successful and stable collaboration with Luca Ronconi, creating sets for many of his shows and following him both nationally and internationally in his work (at the Venice Bienniale, Piccolo Teatro and Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro di Roma, Salzburg Festival, NNT in Tokyo). She also collaborates with directors and choreographers such as M. Avogadro, A. Barzini, V. Binasco, F. Branciaroli, H. Brockhaus, L. Cavani, D. Ezralow, Yang Jiang, C. Lievi, V. Malosti, M. Emanuele Lomello
Creative Technologies Course Leader – He grounds his own training in the field of the performing media arts, as an actor first, as a video-set designer, and light designer then. As a creative technologist and interaction designer, since 2007 he has developed interactive exhibits for museums, events, and live performances. As a technological consultant for public institutions and private studios, he works as a hardware and software developer and he is also a NABA lecturer and Course Leader.
