What will you learn?
This Foundation certificate program will prepare you for advanced studies in animation, visual effects, or game design. Classes include figure drawing, colour and design, sculpting, and more. Students will learn how to observe, represent, and ultimately develop visual skills in a variety of formats.
After completing this course graduates will be eligible to pursue intermediate or advanced programs of study in line with their professional goals within the entertainment arts industry. Students will have the opportunity to develop a strong portfolio to help them gain entry into advanced diploma programs, such as those at the Centre for Entertainment Arts.

An in-depth study of drawing principles is critical to both observation and formulating visual idea. In this course, students will analyze lines, forms, and lighting and how these basic principles will allow them to communicate their ideas into believable images. Perspective, composition, and value pattern are other important concepts covered in this class.

This entry-level course covers the basics of photography as well as how their virtual counterparts work inside a production environment. The students will learn fundamental photography principles such as exposure, depth-of-field, composition, white balance, histograms, and practical workflows.
This is an introductory course designed to explore the basic principles of drawing with the human figure as the focus. Students work directly from the nude model to develop an understanding of gesture, proportion, rhythm, balance, structure, and musculature.
The principles and concepts of the three-dimensional nude human form are presented in this sculpture course. Human proportion, structure, geometry, balance, and anatomy will be explored in projects designed to enhance understanding of 3-D form, volume and space.
An in-depth study of colour and design principles. Students will use analogous, complementary and analogous split complementary palettes to explore colour harmony. Additional topics include muting and toning of colour, colour psychology, advancing/receding colour, simultaneous contrast, colour proportion, the influence of light temperature on colour, design unity and visual emphasis.
The second sculpting class will focus in on the human head and face. Studying the anatomy closely in 3D form will allow the students to understand head and facial features from many angles. ZBrush will also be incorporated to learn about the character sculpting pipeline.
This course is a focused examination of the basic form and structure of the head, with additional study of individual parts of the head. All the while more advance drawing and painting techniques will be discussed. A companion course to the head sculpting so the students can learn how to closely examine any subject matters from both 2D and 3D perspectives.
In this course the students will be introduced to all the advanced programs the Centre for Entertainment Arts has to offer. With a comprehensive overview of the industry, students will gain valuable information regarding their future advance entertainment art studies.
This course is an intensive introduction to digital painting tailored to the visual development design process. Students will utilize Photoshop and 3D software to develop compositions emphasizing the design of cohesive story elements. Students will create a suite of thematically related pieces demonstrating consistent lighting and effective value, colour, depth, and focal point(s).
This is a focused introduction to painting in a traditional medium. Students learn to indicate simple form with a single light source and then learn to paint form lights, various forms, and cast shadows. Students also gain an understanding of warm and cool colours. Emphasis is on composition, cropping, overlapping and placement in the picture plane.
Maya is a critical element in all the industry production pipelines. In this class students will be introduced to all the basic functions of Maya such as modeling, texturing, animation, and lighting. This brief overview will help students gain confidence when tackling specific aspects of Maya in the advanced programs.
This course will focus on working with industry on a real-life application for the creation of: sculptures of quadrupeds, mammals, and other animals. Students will have the opportunity to explore animal sculptural compositions from sketches, drawings, small 3-D models and finished scaled-up sculptures in clay and plaster. Professional aspects of design, finish, and personal style for portfolio solutions will be examined.
